How to Burn an ISO File to a USB Drive

step-by-step tutorial on how to burn an ISO file to a USB drive:

  1. Download and Install Required Software: You’ll need software that allows you to write ISO images to USB drives. A popular choice is a tool called Rufus, which is available for free. You can download Rufus from its official website: https://rufus.ie/
  2. Insert USB Drive: Insert the USB drive into an available USB port on your computer. Make sure it’s large enough to accommodate the ISO file you want to burn.
  3. Launch Rufus: Once you have Rufus downloaded and installed, launch the application.
  4. Select USB Drive: Rufus should automatically detect the USB drive you inserted. If it doesn’t, make sure the correct drive is selected under the “Device” dropdown menu.
  5. Select ISO File: Click on the “Select” button next to the “Boot selection” section. Navigate to the location where your ISO file is stored and select it.
  6. Configure Settings (Optional): Rufus offers various options that you can configure according to your needs. These options include partition scheme, file system, cluster size, etc. For most cases, leaving the default settings should work fine. However, if you’re not sure, you can consult the documentation or leave them as they are.
  7. Start the Process: Once you’ve selected the ISO file and configured any necessary settings, click on the “Start” button. You might see a warning indicating that all data on the USB drive will be erased. Confirm that you’re okay with this, and Rufus will begin the process of burning the ISO file to the USB drive.
  8. Wait for Completion: Rufus will take some time to write the ISO file to the USB drive. The duration can vary depending on the size of the ISO file and the speed of your USB drive. You’ll see a progress bar indicating the status of the process. Once it’s complete, you’ll see a “READY” status in Rufus.
  9. Eject USB Drive: Once Rufus has finished burning the ISO file to the USB drive, you can safely eject the USB drive from your computer.

That’s it! You’ve successfully burned the ISO file to the USB drive, and you can now use it to boot your computer or perform any other actions the ISO file is intended for.
